I returned Saturday from a week-long trip to Kosovo to work with women, girls, and social entrepreneurs.
At a coffee meeting back in MSP a CEO asked me, “How did you end up in Kosovo?”
“SMASHING,” I replied.
“It’s my 2025 word of the year. When I was invited to join delegates to Kosovo, SMASHING said, ‘YES!’”
She replied, “I want that.”
So, I created a SMASHING coaching session to help you reflect and celebrate 2025 and recalibrate the rest of the year-with a SMASHING price too.
This is my Moxie Moment. Inspiring women in Kosovo and right here in the United States of America.

It’s been a SMASHING year so far: five things I didn’t plan.

1. Kosovo.
In March, I said YES to join a delegation from Iowa to go to Kosovo. The week was full of women empowering women through economics, social entrepreneurship, tech, and building community.
When I go back, I’ll lead a PoWer Camp, teach social entrepreneurship classes, and will use AWE as a catalyst to build an international community.
My experience SMASHED all expectations.
2. TED Talk.
In January, I was encouraged to apply for a Ted Talk at my alma mater-University of Northern Iowa. I just knew that this was the one. My topic: The poWer of traveling-alone. I was NOT chosen.
In my defeat, I did what all good social entrepreneurs do-turned the challenge into an opportunity. I found a TedX WOMEN event in Seattle. For sure, this is the one!
I chose a topic based on an essay I wrote about scars: The poWer of 1. SMASHING! I find out June30th if I’m chosen.
3. PoWer Camp.
With women being scrubbed from websites, laws, and American culture, my advisory team and I felt 2025 could be a really hard year.
I’ve done really hard years before. We wondered, “What are my opportunities in this hard?” Diversify, partner, and lean into my strengths.
I mashed my loves of travel, women’s empowerment, and community, partnered with Wild North Guides and created the PoWer Camp. It sold out in one month!
We’re going to have a SMASHING good time!

4. 5,000 books.
I did NOT budget for more books in 2025, but we’re almost out. Right now, we have four corporations using Quit Being So Good for their book clubs.
We’ve sold 4,000 copies!
The competitive me isn’t too impressed, but I was told by my publisher that’s more than 92% of published authors from a Big Five publisher.
We’re SMASHING records!
Help us sell 5,000 copies. Buy a copy. Leave a review. Choose Quit Being So Good for your book club at work, at school, and with your friends.

5. MC Hemmer.
In college, my nickname was “Hemmertime.” It’s served me well: on the dance floor, my future holding company Hemmertime Inc, and my Hotmail account.
This year, I’ve been invited to be an Emcee for several conferences, and now, MC Hemmer has a whole new meaning. I own the url-it’s SMASHING!
